Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli is actually a mixture of three or more minerals.  Its main constituent is blue lazurite, accompanied by calcite and pyrite.  Lapis Lazuli gets its name from the Persian word "Lazhward", meaning blue.
Afghanistan has been the primary source for Lapis Lazuli for over 6,000 years, but it has also been found in California, Colorado and Siberia.
