Sard

     Sard is a variety of Chalcedony.  Sard is a brownish red variety of Onyx but has no banding.  It is an excellent inlay material and is translucent, and is found worldwide.  
     A combination of both Sard and Onyx is called Sardonyx.  White and brownish red bands are characteristic of Sardonyx and artisans create beautiful layered carvings from it.
